Math Blast

Math Blast, held at Grove City College each year, is a great opportunity for future teachers to engage with students in the Grove City Community. I had the opportunity to volunteer in the first and second grade section of Math Blast in 2025. My lesson was on fractions with Maui and Moana - this was a big hit for the kids! They were given the challenge to restore the heart of Te Fiti by going to different stations throughout the room and completing fraction tasks.

Kindergarten
Registration Night

I volunteered at Hillview Elementary School's Kindergarten Registration Night in April of 2025! I tested students on their math and reading skills. Before coming in for registration, one of the kindergarten teachers came into our Assessment class and briefed us on what to expect. She went over the test with us and had us practice it on our peers. I assessed several students and I was impressed by how much they knew at such a young age. When I asked my student to count to twenty, most of them continued counting beyond twenty. I was so proud of them! They were confident and did not seem nervous at all. They all told me they were excited for kindergarten. One of the biggest things I learned throughout this experience was that in kindergarten, one of the best things you can do is to simply be there for your students. Welcome them into the classroom with a kind smile and explain exactly what is expected of them. This age group thrives with predictability and routine. I look forward to working with this grade level again in the future!

Grove City
YMCA Literacy Event

I volunteered at Grove City College's first ever literacy event at the YMCA! We had various stations and activities for every grade level! I worked the bracelet-making table and the kids enjoyed spelling sight words with letter beads. They worked together to create different words and practice spelling.
