The Danielson Framework for Teaching

"A Design to Enhance Professional Practice"

The Danielson Framework hopes to "guide you in your efforts to expand your practice, learn new ways to engage with students, and create innovative approaches that will forever change the way we think about school."

Overview

The Danielson Framework for Teaching signifies the importance of a well rounded education and how to implement those skills into your classroom as an educator. The Danielson Framework is categorized into four domains: Planning & Preparation, Learning Environments, Learning Experiences, and Principled Teaching. Each domain has various subcategories that go further in depth on the topics. The Danielson Framework believes that students will only learn if they are thoroughly engaged in thoughtful classroom activities designed by the teacher. Domain 1

Planning & Preparation

Domain 1 indicates the best methods for teachers to organize and prepare lesson plans for student learning. Planning and Preparation involves comprehending the curriculum and knowing how to help students with different learning abilities to understand it. Planning and Preparation will be incredibly important in my future classroom because they are essentially the foundation for any lessons that take place with students.

Domain 2

Learning Environments

Domain 2 focuses on the importance of learning in a safe learning environment and supporting all kinds of students. In addition to this, it elaborates on forming a positive classroom culture that all students feel confident learning in. It also discusses the importance of encouraging students to go out of their comfort zone when solving problems, and to take academic risks to see success.

Domain 3

Learning Experience

The importance of Domain 3 is to communicate and engage with students during instruction. By engaging students in learning and being flexible with student needs, teachers can better help students thrive. Domain 3 also signifies the importance of using assessment for learning, but also notes that not all “assessments” have to be in the form of a test.

Domain 4

Principled Teaching

Teachers have a lasting impact on the lives of those they teach. Education is not all about academics – it's about influencing your students to make a difference in the world. Principled Teaching is important because the future of our nation depends on teachers caring for their students.
