Microsoft Training: Leading for Equity

Today I took two Microsoft education courses on the importance of equity in schools. As I took the courses, I learned that "equity in education is considered 'heart-work.' It's also student-centered - giving each child what they need when they need it." Being able to accommodate every student's individual needs is what it takes to be an incredible classroom leader. Essentially, "equity begins with leadership." Taking initiative and working with families in order to develop a plan to help a student learn is crucial in high-quality education. One of the most valuable notes I got out of this training was "What really matters, and what is most important, is the students. Be intentional about the outcomes you want to see in your students."

Some of the most beneficial tools this training recommends to teachers include:

  • OneNote Notebook

OneNote Notebook is an online notebook that allows you to type or handwrite notes on your screen.

  • Flipgrid

Flipgrid is an online learning platform that allows teachers to post a prompt to a class forum and students can answer in the form of a video or audio response.

  • Microsoft Office 365

Microsoft Office 365 is the home base for all things Microsoft. Educators can use Microsoft 365 to productively access apps such as PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and more!

  • Microsoft Forms

Microsoft Forms allows you to create quizzes, forms, questionnaires, surveys, polls, and more.

  • Immersive Reader w/ Translator

Immersive Reader w/ Translator allows educators to translate given text in order to help students that are learning English as a second language (ESL).
